Assisted Living in Encinitas

Personal Attention from An Expert Team
Your loved one with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy-body, or other type of dementia will receive expert clinical care led by a physician medical director, with a team that includes a full-time Registered Nurse, round-the-clock licensed nurses and highly trained caregivers. Clinical care is especially important for dementia patients to prevent minor issues from becoming major problems, and to avoid costly visits to the emergency room.

Clinical care outcomes have been tracked since the very first Silverado opened its doors in 1997, and are used to pinpoint and duplicate best practices. Our outcomes are one reason universities and research organizations partner with Silverado.

Medication management is another component of clinical care. With careful monitoring, many of our residents’ sedative and psychotropic medications are reduced, often resulting in a much greater quality of life.

Social, Cognitive and Physical Stimulation for Your Loved One
Physical and mental stimulation have been shown to raise brain function and memory level. Your loved one will have a variety of engaging activities and events to enjoy. Multiple clubs, such as cooking or woodworking, creative outlets such as Memories in the Makingâ„¢ art programs, or flower arranging, and outdoor activities such as gardening or golf, combine to fill their day with motivating fun!

Wandering is a common behavior of those with dementia. At Silverado Senior Living, we have acres of beautiful garden paths within the safety of our secure perimeter. Your loved one can move about freely - and safely.

Our beautiful assisted living community is located near the beach in North County, San Diego. In addition to the gardens and paths, our outdoor area includes a putting green, two miniature horses with a corral, and a swimming pool for your loved one to enjoy.

Lifestyle

Food is a very important part of our residents’ daily lives. Weight loss is always a concern with the elderly, one we take very seriously. A Master Chef heads our culinary department, bringing elegance and taste to every meal. Families are invited to join loved ones at any meal, free of charge. We even have a private dining room for special occasions!

Self-image is paramount to healthy living. Your loved one is dressed and groomed daily to look their best and enjoy their day. We have an onsite health spa, complete with Jacuzzi, massage table, hair salon and barber shop. Our manicurist comes in twice weekly. When we look better, we feel better.

Children and Pets in Assisted Living

Communication is a critical piece of the human puzzle. So what happens when that ability slips away? Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, some vascular diseases, are types of dementia. And, all are progressive, terminal diseases that slowly remove the ability to communicate.

Animals are able to cross the boundaries of conventional communication, bringing back laughter, love and life. Even the stoniest face can break into a gentle smile when nudged by the wet nose of a furry friend.

Residential pets have been a part of Silverado since it was conceived. The co-founders all are animal lovers and could not imagine a home without the love of a pet. Your loved one is encouraged to bring their own pet to live with them in their new home. A friendly wag of the tail, or soft purr on the lap is always a welcome addition!

Silverado associates are allowed to bring their children to work with them (there is even a child’s playground onsite) so that laughter is a common sound as the kids and elders interact. There are several benefits to this. Intergenerational engagement enriches the lives of both the senior and the child, and has the added benefit of changing the face of the future. Silverado kids are introduced to differences – in communication, in walking abilities, even in memories - and develop an early tolerance to diversity. Then there is the added benefit of employee satisfaction and retention … especially important to consider when dealing with dementia, as consistency of care is essential.

A Special Focus on the Family

Dealing with memory-impairing disease is not easy. Your grief can be complicated by guilt. You mourn for a loved one who is still present, but different. You’ve been losing them in pieces. You grieve for your own lifestyle, which has been radically altered.

At Silverado, you are not alone. We have a full-time Master’s prepared Social Worker to serve families and help navigate the complex changes in medical needs, to help with family discussions, and to assist you with your own process. Monthly support groups and family outings can give a sense of belonging and offer a much-needed break, allowing a sharing with others who are going through similar feelings and issues.

Whether Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke-related, or other cause, dementia can create behavioral problems that increase over time. Many assisted living facilities cannot handle these behaviors, and insist difficult cases leave their facility. This is not the case at Silverado. Ours are exclusively dementia care communities; we understand the needs. Silverado is the quality alternative to a nursing home.

Our behavior modification techniques focus on redirection rather than medication. Our approach to difficult behaviors allows your loved one to remain in their new home to the end of their life. Families need not suffer the trauma of moving their loved one.

Your loved one will be cherished in their new home. You will feel the love.
